How the math works
Six inputs, one change you choose, and nothing hidden.
Headcount and salary
Your employee count and average annual salary. Salary divided by 260 working days gives one day’s pay.
Turnover rate
The share of employees who left in the last twelve months. Headcount times this rate gives yearly leavers.
Replacement cost
What one leaver costs as a share of salary: hiring, onboarding, lost time. Ask finance for your own figure.
Cost of turnover today
Yearly leavers times average salary times replacement cost. This is your annual bill for replacing people.
Absence days
Average unplanned days off per employee per year, taken from your HR or payroll system.
Cost of absence today
Headcount times absence days times one day’s pay. It counts pay only, not overtime or cover.
The change you choose
Set a modest cut in turnover and in absence. The calculator applies each one to its own cost.
Budget, return and break-even
Value of the change minus budget, divided by budget, is ROI. Break-even is the change that covers the budget.
ROI is half the story
Turnover and absence are the costs finance already sees, and they take a year to move. The value that shows first is harder to price: managers who notice strain, breaks actually taken, people who plan to stay. Our article on ROI and VOI shows how to track both.
