Four challenges, one stronger team

A quarter of team challenges where everyone takes a turn leading.

Length
Four sessions over one quarter
Price, indicative
From $8,800

One great offsite fades by the next deadline. The Team Challenge Series spaces four sessions across a quarter, so the trust built in one challenge gets tested in real work before the next one starts.

Four sessions across the quarter

  1. Session 1, week 1

    Build and brief

Small groups build a working model from limited parts, then debrief who led, who listened and who was missed.

  2. Session 2, week 4

    Solve under pressure

A timed puzzle trail with incomplete information, where a different person takes the lead each round.

  3. Session 3, week 8

    Make it real

Groups take a real work problem, prototype a fix in three hours and present it to a leader.

  4. Between sessions

    Carry it into work

A 15-minute team practice every two weeks, such as rotating who runs the stand-up.

  5. Session 4, week 12

    Give something back

A volunteering challenge with a local nonprofit, then a review of what the team will keep doing.

What you receive

Who it is for
One team or department of 10 to 30 people
Format
Half-day sessions on site, at a venue or online
  • Four half-day challenge sessions designed as one arc
  • A facilitated debrief after every challenge
  • Short team practices to run between sessions
  • A volunteering project arranged with a local nonprofit
  • A one-page team agreement and a leadership summary

Is this the right program?

Right for you if

  • A new or merged team needs to work well together, fast
  • One-off offsites were fun, but nothing changed afterward
  • You want more people stepping up to lead, not the same three voices

Look elsewhere if

  • You need mediation between two people in conflict; that calls for a different specialist
  • You want one big celebration; a half-day team-building session fits better

Example: an engineering firm after a merger

A 22-person civil engineering team has just merged its Louisville and Lexington offices. Session 1 mixes the two offices in groups of five to build a marble run from limited parts. Session 3 tackles their real handoff problem between design and site teams. Between sessions, a different engineer runs each Monday stand-up. Session 4 has the team help a nonprofit map a new park trail.

Team Challenge Series questions, answered

What kinds of challenges do you run?

Challenges built around a skill the team wants to grow: planning under pressure, sharing information, giving feedback or deciding without the usual leader. Formats include build challenges, puzzle trails, real work problems and a community project. None of them involve trust falls, forced confessions or physical contests.

Is anyone required to be physically active?

No. Every challenge is designed so people of any ability, injury or energy level can take a full part. Where there is movement, there is always a seated or thinking role of equal weight. Nobody is asked to share personal stories, either.

Why does the last session involve volunteering?

Because volunteering stood out in recent research. William Fleming’s 2024 study of 46,336 UK workers, from Oxford’s Wellbeing Research Centre, found participants in most individual-level wellbeing programs were no better off, and volunteering was the exception. We arrange a project with a local nonprofit so the team’s time is genuinely useful.

Can the series run for remote teams?

Yes. Online versions use breakout rooms, shared whiteboards and challenge kits mailed a week ahead. Online sessions are shorter, usually two hours, and fit inside working hours for every time zone. Hybrid teams can join from one office, with remote colleagues placed in the same groups.

How big can the team be?

The series works best for one team of 10 to 30 people, working in groups of four to six. Larger departments can add facilitators or run parallel series, so every debrief stays small enough for a real conversation. Any added cost is itemized in the proposal.
